Next Tuesday is election day. You probably figured that out after having to endure endless political ads exhorting you to vote for someone you’ve never heard of, and hope you never hear of again. The ads, from both sides, all paint a dismal picture of the future should the other side win. It’s a familiar refrain. “Get out and vote, because this is the most important election of our lives.” I’m sure you’re tired of hearing that warning. So here’s one more.
For good or ill, I’ve had an opportunity to experience and to study American elections for nearly 60 years. We’ve had many contentious elections. We’ve been told too many times that if we don’t vote the right way “this may be the last election.”
Every now and then, this ominous warning has some validity. In 1932, at the depths of the Depression, with more than 20% unemployment, and Army tanks chasing homeless veterans through the streets of Washington, an observer quipped, “If FDR isn’t successful, he may be the last Democrat President.” “No,” she was corrected, “If he’s not successful, he may be the last President.”
We’ve had many elections during stressful times, like during the Civil War and World War II. We’ve had contentious elections during times of civil unrest. I can remember Dan Rather covering the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, wearing a gas mask to protect him from the tear gas. I liked him better in the mask.
I might disagree with the methods of those protesters, but at least they were protesting legitimate problems, like the war in Vietnam, and for the civil rights that our Constitution guaranteed, but which were being denied to millions.
The point is, our elections all feature a good deal of alarmist hyperbole. Doom and gloom. Vote or the world ends. And so it is this year. Only this year, the election season Cassandras just might be right.
The conventional wisdom once was that it didn’t much matter which Party won because one was pretty much like the other. There was some truth to this at the time when both Parties respected the Constitution, and understood that reckless spending, unlimited illegal immigration and undermining the government during time of war were things that responsible public servants just didn’t do. But those days are over.
I’ve never been more concerned about our future as I am right now. Politicians are still predicting disaster, protesters are taking to the streets, many European cities are burning, and Antifa, the military wing of the Democrat Party, is gearing up to spread anarchy. And worst of all, most of the Democrat Party has surrendered to the socialists, who are bent on destroying the Constitution that they once swore to uphold and to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic.
Unfortunately, I must tell you that the Democrat Socialists who have taken control of that Party have met the enemy, and it is them. Like Democrats of old, they cling to their protests. But what are they protesting? No Kings? We haven’t got any. For jobs? There’s full employment. Affordability? Too late. They raised prices more than 21% when they were in charge.
No. They’re protesting the fact that there are too many wealthy people in America. You get that? According to the DSA, too many people who are creating products and entire industries which employ millions and spread prosperity are, oh, perish the thought – making a profit. Bolshevik Bernie Sanders wants to do away with billionaires, confiscate their wealth, and use it to fund more wasteful spending. He ignores the facts that those billionaires, the 1% he rants about, are paying more than 40% of the taxes, and that once he’s pissed away their money, there will be none left to steal. But, he’ll burn that bridge when he comes to it.
The DSA wants to cancel the Constitution. They hate the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, Article II, that created the Electoral College, Article III (the Supreme Court), and the Senate, which they plan to disband. Then they want to pack the Court, create new States to cement Democrat control, put an end to capitalism, and arrest dissenters. Their motto should be, “Make America a Soviet Gulag.”
This is no joke. I reported the words of Democrat Senator Elissa Slotkin last week, who has announced plans to begin a new lawfare campaign against Republicans once Democrats take control. “I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him. I want young people coming out of school to say, should I go work for the […] administration? Like, that sounds fun. I might get an opportunity. I want them to be like, Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that.”
And this from the Party that keeps warning Trump is a fascist threat to democracy, who wants to cancel all elections. What she calls “deterrence” is more aptly defined as dictatorship. Keep in mind Slotkin isn’t just dreaming. They already tried to imprison Trump and his supporters, and they keep trying to kill him.
The definition of fascism is “Everything inside the State, nothing outside the State, and nothing against the State.” Sounds like the Democrats to me.
And who is it who wants to prevent fair elections from happening? It was Democrats who tried to remove Trump’s name from State ballots. It is Democrats who permit illegal aliens to be registered to vote. More than 20,000 illegals were discovered registered in California. A Clinton appointed judge this week denied Trump Administration attempts to prevent them from voting.
This week, NY Mayor Commie Mamdani assured illegal aliens they had nothing to fear on election day, telling them they need bring no identification to the polling places, and promising to keep any and all ICE agents away from the polls.
And the story from Alaska just keeps getting more and more interesting. The incumbent Senator, Dan Sullivan, is up for reelection. His Democrat opponent is former Alaska House member Mary Peltola. Alaska has ranked choice voting, which permits a candidate who got fewer votes to win anyway.
It seems the Peltola campaign, on the instructions of high ranking Democrat officials, the Democrat Senatorial Committee, campaign attorneys, and other miscreants, was ordered to go out and find other people named Dan Sullivan to put on the ballot.
They found a retired teacher, supporting Peltola, who agreed to be put on the ballot in order to confuse voters. The ballot looks like this: Mary Peltola, registered Democrat; Daniel J. Sullivan, registered Republican (the fake Sullivan); then, Daniel S. Sullivan, registered Republican (the real Sullivan). The object is to try to keep the real Sullivan under 50% of the vote by having the fake Sullivan confuse voters.
A Peltola staffer spilled the beans to the New York Times. The Times published a story, supported by 12 sources, text messages, and documents, exposing the shenanigans. Peltola, confronted with the story, made no denial. Instead, she bashed the New York Times (how often has a Democrat had to do that?) and called the story “a distraction.”
State and federal investigations are underway, but the election is Tuesday. I expect the Democrats to stay silent until after the election, after which they will say, “So what? It’s not illegal.” And they might be right. They learned it from JFK, who, as an unknown candidate in 1946, ran against well known Boston politician, Joe Russo, in the primary. JFK’s father recruited a janitor named Joe Russo to run in the same primary. It worked, and the rest is history.
On Tuesday we have a choice to make. Not a choice between one Party or the other, but between America as we have known it and the socialist Hellhole that Democrats are planning for us. It’s a choice between sanity or insanity; economic expansion or economic ruin; freedom or oppression.
Republicans sure as Hell aren’t perfect. Far from it. But the alternative scares Hell out of me.
