FRANK ON FRIDAY – Trump Season

In a famous 1951 Looney Tunes cartoon entitled Rabbit Fire, Bugs Bunny tries to convince rabbit hunter Elmer Fudd that it’s really duck season, to the detriment of Daffy Duck.  Given the plethora of ongoing investigations of President Trump, his family and his businesses, by the Congress and assorted prosecutors, it’s clear that the Left has decided that it’s Trump Season.  The Mueller Report was supposed to settle these matters once and for all, but the Dems didn’t get the result they wanted, so the House Democrats want to do it again.  In their pursuit of the Russian collusion fantasy, Democrats have found no lie too big to tell about what Mueller’s report does and does not say.  Mueller explicitly found no collusion with any Russian, but Congressional Democrats continue to claim the report says otherwise.  Attorney General Barr made it a point to get Mueller on the record to confirm that his decision not to decide about obstruction of justice had nothing to do with the Justice Dept. rule that prohibits indictment of a sitting president.  That didn’t stop hundreds of “former federal prosecutors,” a/k/a Democrats put out of office by Trump’s election and assorted Never-Trump so-called Republicans, from claiming that only the Department rule prevented Trump’s indictment.  House Democrats have declared open season on the President.  There are more than 20 separate investigations under way by Congressional committees.  I actually heard an ABC WHite House correspondent the other day decrying the White House “stonewalling” the Congressional “oversight” role.  Hey numbnuts, the Congress has the right to oversee the operation of the various Executive departments.  It does not have the right to investigate the financial history of the chief executive.  The House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena for the unredacted Mueller report and all underlying evidence.  The laws enacted by Congress prohibit the Attorney General from giving them what they subpoeaned, but that’s alright, because Gerry Nadler doesn’t really want the documents.  He purposely demanded things he knew he couldn’t have, so that he can complain that he didn’t get them and claim a coverup, so the insane Democrat base will be appeased and keep sending money.  Hard to believe, you say?  Think again.  About 40% of the electorate still believes the Russians changed votes in the 2016 election.  Constant lies by Democrats and the media will do that.  The House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena for documents and testimony from former White House counsel Don McGahn.  Trump produced over a million documents for Mueller, and McGahn was allowed to testify for 30 hours.  The White House will not permit him to testify.  Aha, coverup!  Perhaps the Democrats never heard of executive or attorney-client privilege.  The House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees asked the White House and State Department to turn over “all documents and communications, regardless of form and classification, that refer or relate to any communications between President Trump and President Putin, including in-person meetings and telephone calls.”  This is an unconstitutional encroachment by Congress into the Executive Branch’s foreign policy powers.  The House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to accounting firm Mazars USA seeking eight years of Trump’s financial documents, the House Intelligence and Financial Services committees issued subpoenas to Deutsche Bank and Capital One for Trump’s financial records, the House Ways and Means Committee has requested six years of Trump’s personal and business tax returns, the House Oversight Committee is conducting a wide-ranging investigation centering on alleged abuses with the White House security clearance system, the House Judiciary Committee in early March sent letters to 81 Trump-connected individuals and entities seeking records and testimony from the White House, Trump’s businesses, charity and family, as part of a broad inquiry into potential obstruction of justice and corruption, they also are investigating whether Trump misrepresented his net worth.  All of these Congressional excesses are geared toward what The Wall Street Journal recently referred to as The Psuedo Impeachment.  They didn’t like the Mueller Report, so Mueller must be interrogated.  For what?  Is there something he could have left out of his 448 page report? Because Attorney General Barr can’t give them redacted items the law doesn’t permit him to disclose, he’s hiding something and covering up, so he must be interrogated, and his character must be assassinated.  They loved Rod Rosenstein when they thought he was trying to bring the President down.  Now that he’s left office, he has become another enemy.  As the Journal sees it, the character assianations and constant subpoenas are designed to appease the whacky Democrat base, that demands Trump’s impeachment, regardless of the consequences to the Democrat Party.  The truth of the matter is that, in two years, President Trump has been investigated more than any other president, and the investigators have found nothing.  The Democrats have shot all their guns at President Trump and missed.  But now, the Mueller investigation complete, Attorney General Barr is the new Game Warden.  It’s high time that the members of the Obama Administration who cleared Hillary and framed Trump were put under scrutiny.  To that end, the Attorney General has appointed U.S. Attorney John Durham to examine the conduct of such miscreants as Comey, Clapper, Brennan, Lynch and the other CIA,  FBI and Justice Dept. employees who used the FISA court for political purposes.  This investigation could lead right to the door of that wascally wabbit, Il Duce Obama.  Watch out you Daffy Democrats, it’s no longer Trump Season, it’s Truth Season.

FRANK ON FRIDAY – Comey – Monk, Martyr or Mad?

To say that James Comey is a strange character in the chronicles of the Trump presidency is something of an understatement.  Throughout this sad episode in our political history, Comey has lurked, first as Director of the FBI, then as the ever-present voice from the wilderness, pontificating on events, the final arbiter of good and evil.  This week, historian Victor Davis Hanson published The Fright of James Comey, which is an analysis of Comey’s recent conduct.  Hanson recounts what he calls Director Comey’s schizophrenic behavior as a prosecutor and investigator in the Hillary Clinton email matter.  Comey exempted Clinton aides Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin from indictment.  Attorney General Loretta Lynch recused herself in the Clinton email investigation after she got caught meeting with Slick Willy in Arizona.  Lynch ordered Comey to call the Hillary investigation “a matter” and not an investigation.  That was an honest assessment, because Comey never really investigated Hillary.  He granted immunity to Clinton’s aides without getting any information in return, and overlooked their lying to the FBI.  Comey wrote his summation of the Clinton email investigation, exonerating Hillary before he had even interviewed her.  Comey then played a starring role in the efforts by the CIA and Justice Dept. to spy on the Trump campaign, to prevent his election, and to drive him from office after he won.  The effort to drive Trump from office was a necessity, to cover up the illegal spying and frame job that he and the others had done.  The efforts before the election, to stop Trump and elect Hillary, had a different motivation.  Comey had chosen sides in the election, and had put the full weight and all resources of the government’s intelligence and law enforcement agencies to work to ensure the result he wanted – Hillary had to win, and if not, then Trump still could not be President.  He was an outsider, who could not be trusted to permit the deep State to continue running the show, despite the will of the electorate.  But Comey was a straight arrow, perhaps the last honest man in Washington, or so we were led to believe.  How could he be party to such underhanded conduct?  Perhaps the answer lies in Comey’s past; in his education, and in his core beliefs.  It appears that, when Comey made anonymous comments online, he used the name “Reinhold Niebuhr” on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.  This is telling.  Comey earned undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Religion at the College of William and Mary in 1982.  He wrote his senior thesis on liberal theologian Reinhold Niebuhr.  According to Niebuhr, a Christian has an obligation to seek justice, by entering the political sphere because that is where one can find the power necessary to establish whatever justice is possible in the world.  “The Christian is to seek justice.  Politics holds the power necessary for the establishment of justice.  Therefore the Christian must participate in the political process.”  Comey’s decision to work for the FBI can be understood as a way of fulfilling Niebuhr’s vision of Christianity as a defender of justice.  I always wondered, if Comey recognized it as his duty to stop Trump from being President, why he would have given the remarkable July 5, 2016 performance, when he laid out the damning evidence against Hillary, and then announced that she would not be charged with a crime.  For a student of Niebuhr, justice is about using your power to balance the power of those not predisposed to recognize any limits on their self-interest.  People like Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.  It appears that Comey the Good was compelled to expose the flaws in both candidates, and then to choose the one he believed was the lesser of two evils.  This religious fervor explains much of Comey’s conduct.  His reliance on the ridiculous Steele dossier to spy on the Trump campaign; his withholding from the Court the facts that the dossier was an unverified political document, and that Steele had been fired by the FBI; and his meeting with President Trump in January 2017, in which he told Trump a portion of the material in the dossier, so that he could then leak his report to the media.  These were sins, to be sure, but he was doing the work of the Lord.  Halleluah!  Victor Davis Hanson reminds us that Comey lied to the President to make him think that he was not under investigation and that the FBI did not leak confidential information to the press.  Comey’s deputy Andrew McCabe and Comey himself were chronic leakers.  Comey swore under oath that he had never authorized anyone in the FBI to leak to the press.  McCabe swore that Comey was well aware that his subordinates were talking to the press to leak information selectively.  One of them lied under oath, and the upcoming report of the Justice Depatrment’s Inspector General likely will include criminal referals for that.  Comey stole FBI documents, which he leaked to the media.  He faces criminal jeopardy for that.  Hanson sees Comey’s incessant efforts to denounce Trump as preparation for his defense against the charges likely to come from Attorney General Barr’s investigations of the pre and post election shenanigans of the Justice Department.  “Yes, I might have done those things, but Trump was a real and present threat to democracy, so I did it for my country.”  As James Boswell taught, “Patriotism is the last resort of a scoundrel.”  But Comey doesn’t see himself as a scoundrel.  In his mind, he must use his power to do justice, as the Christian arbiter of all that is just.  If he must fall, it is his Christian duty to do so.  Hence, Comey the martyr, and would-be saint.  Perhaps a latter day Saint James.  Let’s hope he fairs better than the first one.  King Herod beheaded him.  If all this sounds crazy, that too might be by design.  Maybe Comey is auditioning his insanity defense.  Who knows?  Whether it’s to be Comey the monk, the martyr or the madman, only time will tell.

FRANK ON FRIDAY – Crimes and Coverups

For those of you who thought that the Mueller Report would put an end to the Democrat and media led recreation of the Salem witch trials, sorry, no such luck.  The Left is far too crazy, and far too invested in the “Trump was a Russian agent” bull crap to let this go.  To recap, the CIA and FBI set up several low-ranking members of the Trump campaign to orchestrate the destruction of the Trump presidential bid, and if, God forbid, he were to win, to drive him from office.  They, with the assistance of Il Duce Obama, got four FISA warrants to conduct surveillance on the President and his administration, unmasked the names of Americans who were intercepted, and leaked information to their media handmaidens.  James Comey treated President Trump as a criminal suspect, went to the President in the role of an undercover operative, planted the Steele dossier hoax allegations, stole classified documents from the FBI, and then leaked them to the media, to create a perceived need for a Special Counsel investigation.

The Dems bullied Attorney General Sessions into needlessly recusing himself from the investigation, and Mueller and his 17 Democrat henchmen ran amok for nearly two years, interviewed 500 people in a number of countries, executed countless search warrants, charged us some $30 million, and concluded that no one from the Trump campaign, or for that matter any American, conspired with the Russians to do anything untoward.  We paid Mueller for his legal judgment, but because he knew he had no legal case for obstruction of justice by the President, Mueller refused to formally make that judgment. (Don’t we deserve a refund for that?)  Attorney General Barr summarized Mueller’s conclusions, released the report to the public with few redactions, and made an unredacted report available to members of Congress.  No Democrat reviewed it.  All this should satisfy the Dems in Congress, right?  Wrong!  The Dems on the Senate Judiciary Committee will not let this nonsense go.  On May 1st, Attorney General Barr testified before the committee, and its Democrat members tried hard to kill the messenger.   Phony Vietnam veteran Blumenthal insulted Barr.  Crazy Maisie Hirono called him a liar, and demanded his resignation.  It got so bad Committee Chairman Lyndsey Graham called her comments “slander,” and put a stop to them.  Would-be President Kamala Harris said he had no credibility.  Nancy Pelosi has called Barr “a boot-licking hack.”  What has Barr done, you ask?  He correctly interpreted the law, decided that this President did not obstruct justice, and that no president can obstruct justice simply by exercising the authority vested in the chief executive by the Constitution.  The Democrats are trying to turn the total loss they suffered, when Bob Mueller failed to find evidence of crimes that does not exist, into the 2019 version of the Watergate hearings.  The only difference is that in Watergate, there actually were real crimes and real criminals, up to and including the president.  It is from Watergate, that we get the phrase, “it’s not the crime, it’s the coverup.”  45 years ago, that was true.  Had Richard Nixon fired the people responsible for the Watergate burglary on June 18, 1972, it would have been over – no hearings, no resignation.  Today, that familiar phrase doesn’t apply.  Even Bob Mueller says there was no crime, hence nothing to cover up.  Well, maybe nothing for President Trump to cover up, but certainly there were crimes and there is an ongoing coverup.  Remember the recap above?  The CIA and the FBI and Justice Department people, like Brennan and Clapper and Comey and Strozk and McCabe and Sally Yates and Loretta Lynch and yes, even Il Duce Obama, are guilty of crimes that they are still trying to cover up.  Trump was a threat to them, so they tried to get rid of him.  Sessions and General Flynn were threats to them, and they did get rid of them.  But the new threat is Attorney General Barr.  He went before Congress and dared to say what we all know, but what the Democrats must continue to deny, that President Trump was spied upon by the Intelligence Community.  The Inspector General’s investigation, and the Strozk-Page texts, and testimony from people in the FBI, and our own common sense have proven it.  Bruce Ohr was right at the heart of the conspiracy, so why is he still employed by the FBI?  Only one reason.  He is singing.  Barr also promised the Congress that he has a number of open leak investigations, and that he is investigating the conspiracy to clear Hillary Clinton and the conspiracy to frame the President, including all the FISA court abuses.  Reportedly, a number of FBI employees are about to be indicted for FISA court abuses during the Obama Administration.  The Left must try to cover up, because when those truths become known, all of them are at risk.  The devastating damage to Democrats aside, when the heads begin to roll, people are going to jail.  People in the Obama Administration who conspired, lied and leaked.  People in Congress who lied and leaked, and the media people who received the leaks, and perpetuated the conspiracy and lies since 2015.  That’s right, this crap didn’t start in July 2016 with George Papadopolous.  The Democrats are desperate.  Some of them committed crimes, and justice is coming for them.  The rest of them, in the throes of Trump Derangement psychosis, have been shoveling this crap with both hands for several years.  When the indictments come, even the fake news media won’t be able to save them.  The Left wants another Watergate, but they should be careful what they wish for.  In 2019 it’s the crime, and the coverup, and the Left is responsible for both of them.  Yes, justice is coming.  Bill Barr better get somebody to start his car.

FRANK ON FRIDAY – The Sound of Stupid

The most despicable thing the Left has done to President Trump has been its refusal to treat him with the respect due any President of the United States.  Trump never has been accorded the respect that the other 43 Presidents were accorded.  Instead, this President has been treated as a criminal ever since he came down the elevator in 2015.  Democrat politicians treat Trump as a criminal, the media treats him as a criminal, and we now know that the CIA, the FBI and the Obama Justice Department treated Trump as a criminal.  What’s more, even after a two year anal examination by Bob Mueller’s 17 Hillary loving persecutors, a probe that found Trump had not violated any law, he remains a prime suspect of the Left.  I submit to you gentle readers that the fault lies not with the President, but with the Leftists, who are so blinded by hate, that they are forced to interpret any incident, no matter how trivial, as proof positive that Trump is a fascist, racist, sexist, homophobe.  But they’ve outdone themselves now.  In a recent tweet, far-left New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman suggested that the song Edelweiss, which recently was played at the White House by the Marine Corps Band, was a pro-Nazi anthem.  The NYT twit tweeted, “Does anyone at that White House understand the significance of that song?”  Really?  Is it any wonder that Twitter contains the word “twit?” Haberman is the NYT White House correspondent.  There was a time when the White House correspondent was an experienced, intelligent journalist; people like Helen Thomas, or Hugh Sidey, who was the White House correspondent for Time Magazine.  I met Hugh Sidey in 1977.  He covered every President from Eisenhower to George W. Bush.  He was smart, he was funny, and he was a master storyteller.  Which brings us back to Maggie Haberman.  She grew up in New York City, and she is a 45 year old graduate of Sarah Lawrence College.  One might expect that such credentials carried with them at least a modicum of intelligence, and if not intelligence, then at least a degree of practical experience in the real world.  And even failing those qualifications, one might expect that at least Maggie Haberman had, at some time in her life, seen the movie, The Sound of Music.  I know, the picture was released before she was born, but it’s on television all the time. Then again, as a sophisticated New Yorker, maybe Haberman doesn’t watch TV, except for MSNBC, of course.  But then again, as a sophisticated New Yorker, there is the theater, and The Sound of Music has been brought back to the stage many times.  Maggie Haberman felt compelled to tweet out her disgust that President Trump dared to have Edelweiss playing as she entered the White House.  She suggested that her disgust came from the “fact” that Edelweiss is “a pro-Nazi song.”  Let’s put aside for the moment Maggie’s insulting suggestion that the U.S. Marine Corps Band would play a pro-Nazi song, and put further to the side the notion that President Trump himself chose the program for the Band to play because, of course, as a latter-day Nazi, he was determined to put his Nazi pedigree on full display.  The real insult is that Haberman, who occupies a high position on a publication which claims to contain, “All the news that’s fit to print,” could exhibit such stunning ignorance.  Haberman likely connects the song Edelweiss only to Amazon’s television series, The Man In the High Castle, a fictional drama set in an alternate universe where the Nazis and the Japanese won World War II and now occupy different parts of America.  The Edelweiss song is played during the opening credits of The Man In the High Castle.  Obviously, Trump is a fan of any show that has Nazis in it, so he must have ordered the Band to play that song as a tribute to his Nazi forebears.  Edelweiss is a lovely song that sounds as though it was written long ago.  It is an iconic tune that brings people (well, normal people), back to the innocence of watching The Sound of Music since childhood.  Edelweiss actually is a brilliantly subversive anti-Nazi tune penned by two German Jews, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, for their 1959 Broadway smash The Sound of Music.  World War II was fresh in the minds of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and for that matter anyone around in 1959.  The older folks had lived through it, and the younger crowd had heard of it, as history was still being taught in America in those days.  The Anschluss was the March 12, 1938 Nazi annexation of Austria.  If Maggie Haberman didn’t learn the history of Nazi Germany at Sarah Lawrence, you’d at least think that she might, at some point in her life have read a book or seen The Sound of Music.   If she had, then she might have known that it is the semi- factual account of the Von Trapp family singers.  In it, Baron Von Trapp is an Austrian Navy Captain who is being involuntarily commissioned into the German Navy.  The Baron is a patriotic Austrian who hates  fascism in general and the Nazis in particular.  Edelweiss is a patriotic Austrian song whose lyrics include the line, “Bless my homeland forever.”  When the Baron sings the song in public, he is defying the local Austrian Nazi official who is trying to force him to work for Adolph Hitler’s Kriegsmarine (Navy) against his will.  The real facts don’t matter, however.  With the advent of “if true” “journalism,” no real facts matter.  Maggie Haberman knows all she needs to know about it.  If that song was played in the Trump White House, it was played to honor the Nazis.  Then again, the Edelweiss lyrics do expose a nasty streak of nationalism among Austrians, and in this progressive age, all nationalism is prohibited, even when its purpose is to prevent a genocide.  To paraphrase George Orwell’s Snowball, “Reporters good, Trump bad.”  Hey, maybe “Snowball” is the forefather of the progressive Snowflakes.  Nah, more likely Rodgers and Hammerstein were just crypto-Nazis.

FRANK ON FRIDAY – The End Is Near – Again

The world is going to end in 12 years unless the government takes action, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said recently.  “And I think the part of it that is generational is that millenials and people, in Gen Z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.  You’re biggest issue, your biggest issue is how are going to pay for it? — and like this is the war, this is our World War II.”  If you are asking yourself, “Say what?” you are not alone. AOC (Arrogant Obstinate-Cuckoo), continued, “How are we saying take it easy, the America that we’re living in today is dystopian with people sleeping in their cars so they can work a second job without healthcare and we’re told to settle down.  It’s a fundamental separation between that fierce urgency of now, the why we can’t wait that King [Dr. Martin Luther] spoke of. That at some point this chronic reality do reach a breaking point and I think for our generation it reached that, I wished I didn’t have to be doing every post, but sometimes I just feel like people aren’t being held accountable.” Being so much smarter than the rest of us must be such a burden.  It’s not the first time AOC has warned us we only have 12 years until the world comes to an end, so it must be true, right?  Uh, I wouldn’t start thinking of skipping the payments on your mortgage just yet.  The one thing the global warming/climate change alarmists have in common is that they have been dead wrong for almost 50 years.  Next week is the 49th anniversary of the first Earth Day in 1970.  The first Earth Day was organized by Stanford University professor Paul Erlich, who in 1968, predicted that by the 1980’s world population would outstrip the ability of our economic system to produce more food, and as a result up to 200 million people would starve to death.  He might have been wrong there.  The world’s population has doubled since 1968 without the predicted mass starvation.   Other “experts” also made dire predictions in 1970.  North Texas State University Professor Peter Gunter predicted world-wide famine from 1975 to 2000. Ecologist Kenneth Watt predicted that nitrogen buildup in the atmosphere would filter out all light, making all farm land unusable.  I must have missed that one.  Watt wasn’t done, though.  He also predicted that by 2000 there would be no crude oil left on the Earth.  As I write this, we are running out of storage tanks and tankers for the excess crude oil we are producing, and we are exporting oil.  In 2006, Al Gore no less, and there is no less, warned that the world would end in 10 years.  That didn’t happen either.  Regardless, the claim of global warming is still being made in the face of a 17 year history of flat temperatures.  Since 1880, global average temperature has gone up 1.5 degrees, that’s 1.5 degrees in nearly 140 years.  The United Nations, that organization that we are supposed to believe never lies and is always right (I don’t know about that one) claims that “It is extremely likely that human influence on climate caused more than half of the observed increase in global average surface temperature from 1951 to 2010.”  Translation – the U.N. “thinks” humans “may” be responsible for a temperature increase of less than 1 degree.  They must have irrefutable evidence for that, right?  Well, not really.  There is evidence that CO2 levels have increased.  The U.N. is worried about that.  Now, CO2 levels have been 4 to 18 times higher in the past, but these are “experts” you understand, and they have a solution.  As you might guess, the solution is for the United States to undergo “a radical transformation.”  Uh, where have we heard that term before?  That’s right, from Il Duce Obama.  To be fair, the U.N. says all nations must radically transform, but what are the odds of that happening?  The radical transformation entails the absolute shut down of all coal-fired energy plants by 2050.  That’s part of the Green New Deal, remember?  No coal, no oil, no gasoline, no internal combustion engines, no cow farts, and ultimately, no wealth in the United States.  Yeah, that should be an improvement.  We’ll have a worldwide depression that puts the Great Depression of the 1930’s to shame, but we have no choice if we want to live.  The real question is who would want to live in that world?  The transformation would see large swaths of land currently used to produce food converted to growing trees that store carbon and crops designated for energy use. The latter would be used as part of a currently nonexistent program to get power from trees or plants and then bury the resulting carbon dioxide emissions in the ground, leading to a net subtraction of the gas from the air.  The result?  Millions will starve, but CO2 levels “may” decrease.  The Leftist Greens, formerly known as Reds, are willing to condemn America to a bleak future of poverty and despair so long as they can dictate (isn’t that what dictators do?) every aspect of our lives, if you call that living.  America may lead the world, protect the world and feed the world, but once the whole world is equally miserable and destitute, their work will be done.  The Greens would give us the world envisioned by philosopher Thomas Hobbes, where the life of Man is “cold, solitary, nasty, brutish and short.”  I’ll pass.  How about the truth?  I know that truth has little impact on the Left, but the truth is that, if reducing CO2 is important, the U.S. is the only industrialized nation that has reduced its output of CO2 in recent years.  We’ve done that without sacrificing our way of life, and along the way, we’ve grown stronger and improved the lives of Americans.  Too bad we can’t continue making things better for Americans.  AOC has spoken.  Here’s a thought.  AOC should shut her pie hole for 12 years, and get out of the way.  Happy Earth Day!  Well at least for the next 11 years.
