In 1823, in his annual statement to Congress, President James Monroe announced what became a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy, which became known as the Monroe Doctrine. The Doctrine served notice that, because the Old World and the New World had different systems, they must remain in their distinct spheres.
President Monroe made four basic points: (1) the United States would not interfere in the internal affairs of or the wars between European powers; (2) the United States recognized and would not interfere with existing colonies and dependencies in the Western Hemisphere; (3) the Western Hemisphere was closed to future colonization; and (4) any attempt by a European power to oppress or control any nation in the Western Hemisphere would be viewed as a hostile act against the United States.
In 1848, President Polk reiterated Monroe’s principles, warning Britain and Spain not to establish footholds in Oregon, California, or Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Polk reinterpreted the doctrine in terms of the prevailing spirit of Manifest Destiny. Whereas Monroe had said only that the Western Hemisphere was no longer open to European colonialism, Polk now stated that European nations should not interfere with projected territorial expansion by the United States.
In 1904, President Theodore Roosevelt added the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. This Corollary stated that in cases of flagrant and chronic wrongdoing by a Latin American country, the United States could intervene in that country’s internal affairs.
For more than 100 years, the U.S. tried to exploit our distance from Europe to avoid entanglements in wars on that continent. We remained basically isolationist. It was only when our rights were invaded or seriously menaced that we intervened for our own defense.
Before we entered World War I, Woodrow Wilson fully intended to stay out of the conflict. It took German Uboats sinking U.S. shipping, and the German Ambassador trying to entice Mexico to attack us to get him to declare war. Up until the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the U.S. had a policy of neutrality which greatly hampered FDR’s efforts to aid Great Britain.
With regard to threats native to Central and South America, the U.S. hasn’t been shy about exerting its influence under the Roosevelt Corollary. U.S. Marines spent most of the 1920’s and 1930’s pacifying Haiti, Nicaragua, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
We toppled the Guatemalan government in 1954. We invaded the Dominican Republic in 1965. We intervened in Nicaragua in 1979, El Salvador in 1980, Grenada in 1983, and Panama in 1989.
Last weekend, President Trump treated us to an exercise of what’s being called the Donroe Doctrine. In 2020, Venezuela’s poser President Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, were indicted for federal crimes. In 2022, Corrupt Demented Imbecile Joe Biden put a $25 million reward on Maduro’s head. Trump increased the bounty to $50 million. Sunday morning, Maduro and wife were seized by Delta Force operators, and flown back to the U.S. to face justice.
Democrats had lambasted Trump for failing to seize Maduro in his first term. The detestable Chuck Schumer denounced Trump’s Venezuela policy because he hadn’t removed Maduro. Democrats openly called for regime change in Venezuela. There was good reason for them to do so.
Venezuela sits on the largest oil reserves in the world. Before the country was taken over by Communists Hugo Chavez and Maduro, Venezuela was one of the richest nations on Earth. The Communists did to Venezuela what they do wherever they seize power. They bankrupted the country, and turned the citizens into starving slaves.
In the Socialist Worker’s Paradise of Venezuela, one-third of the population fled the country. Those who remained were reduced to eating pets and zoo animals. Yes, that really happened. In place of the oil economy that had made Venezuela rich, Maduro made his nation a narco-terrorist State. Maduro is accused of running the narcotics distribution enterprise himself.
U.S. oil companies found the oil under Venezuela, and built the infrastructure necessary to refine their heavy, dirty crude oil. The Communists expelled our companies and seized their assets. What remains of the Venezuelan oil industry was being run by, and for the benefit of the Chinese, the Russians, and the Iranians.
Venezuelan oil has been subjected to sanctions, sanctions that went unenforced until Trump’s reelection. In addition to destroying the Venezuelan drug boats, Trump began seizing oil tankers carrying sanctioned oil to China.
The Delta Force raid involved 150 aircraft, fixed wing and helicopters. Our forces neutralized Venezuelan air defenses. They invaded the army base where the Maduros were living, under the protection of Cuban Army troops. The Cubans have admitted that 32 of their “combatant” officers were killed. Delta Force breached the defenses, got the Maduros out within one hour and exfiltrated without casualties.
Given all the Democrat bitching about want to remove Maduro, they should be very happy now, right? Wrong! Now, they want to impeach Trump (again) for doing now what they blasted him for not doing earlier. No surprise there. If Democrats didn’t stand for hypocrisy, they would stand for nothing at all.
Like their Socialist comrades in the leftists governments of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, and Spain, many elected Democrats are denouncing the Maduro operation as illegal. Scamola, sorry Scamala, Harris was sober enough to condemn the Trump administration’s capture of Venezuelan dictator Maduro and his wife, as both “unlawful” and “unwise.” Right. Have another drink Scamala.
The usual leftist suspects like Dan Goldman, Chris Van Hollen, Adam Schiff (for brains) , and Chris Murphy are calling the operation an unconstitutional incursion aimed at giving Venezuela’s oil to Trump’s billionaire friends. They’re muttering about the War Powers Act, and complaining about Trump not seeking their consent.
Of course, we’re not at war, he doesn’t need their consent, and please, make my day. Invoke the War Powers Act, so the Supreme Court can strike it down once and for all. The decrepit Nancy Pelosi admitted the real reason Democrats are denouncing the operation. “Venezuela is ruled by an illegitimate regime, but the Administration has not made the case that an urgent threat to America’s national security existed to justify the use of U.S. military force … Congress must be fully and immediately briefed.” Translation – “We’re against it only because Trump did it.”
The operation to seize Maduro was done for the purpose of arresting a wanted fugitive, to be sure. That clothed the operation in legal authority. But arresting the Maduros wasn’t the only purpose. Several days before the raid, the Chinese announced to the world that they were not going to recognize any U.S. right to protect its own hemisphere. They announced they were going to send in tankers to take out all the oil they wanted.
The Chinese spit on the Monroe Doctrine. Donald Trump took note. The Maduro operation served notice on the Chinese, the Russians, the Cubans, the Iranians, and others that the Monroe Doctrine remains in full effect. Maybe we should call it the Trump FAFO Doctrine. Whatever we call it, the message was received. How it will end will depend on whether Venezuela gets to have a real, fair election. Stay tuned.
It’s a new year, and despite all hopes that we might be getting closer to a society in which we could reach accommodation with those holding differing opinions, that doesn’t seem likely. If anything, an already polarized society and electorate seems to getting even more polarized, if that’s possible.
Those afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome, incredibly are sinking even deeper into their psychoses. Absolutely every action taken by the President sets these people off. For his part, President Trump knows this, and he therefore takes every opportunity to provoke them. Perhaps that’s not the best tactic, but after what he’s been through, can you blame him? I mean, Trump’s constantly being criticized for failing to seek accommodation with people who continually declare him to be illegitimate. There’s no pleasing or negotiating with these people, so screw them.
Trump does things for the express purpose of making liberal heads explode. And the liberals never fail to take the bait. The latest one is Trump’s decision to add his name to the Kennedy Center. Unsurprisingly, liberals are outraged. Would I have added the Trump name to the building – no. But at the end of the day, what difference does it make?
Now, irate progressive performers are cancelling their appearances at the Kennedy Center. The Kennedy Center Director, Rick Grenell, has announced that he has evidence that CNN is encouraging performers to cancel scheduled shows. If true, I foresee a lawsuit against CNN for tortious interference with contract. CNN may wind up funding the renovations of the Trump/Kennedy Center.
Most of the cancellations have come from performers I’ve never even heard of. A New York City jazz group by the name of The Cookers have bailed on their planned New Year’s Eve performance, pontificating, “Jazz was born from struggle and from a relentless insistence on freedom: freedom of thought, of expression, and of the full human voice.” Not sure what that means. Whoever they are, they were still free to sing whatever they wanted, and to say whatever they wanted about the President.
Musician Chuck Redd, who had hosted the center’s “Jazz Jams” Christmas Eve concert since 2006, withdrew from the show after hearing of the name change. “When I saw the name change on the Kennedy Center website and then hours later on the building, I chose to cancel our concert,” Redd said. Redd’s doctrinal purity may prove costly, however. Grenell has notified Redd that his belated cancellation may expose him to a lawsuit for breach of contract, to the tune of $1 million. That’s truly putting your money where your mouth is.
You must remember that, for so-called progressives, substance is irrelevant. It’s only the cause that counts. What cause? It doesn’t matter. If Trump’s for it, they’re against it. Never mind that John F. Kennedy got elected in 1960 by appearing tougher on defense than Richard Nixon. Never mind that JFK wouldn’t be welcome in today’s Democrat Party. The cause is resistance, no matter what.
The mania to resist animates their every action. It doesn’t have to make sense. These are the people who force sports teams to change mascot names they find objectionable, but have yet to realize that Washington and Lee College is named for Robert E. Lee. They have long lists of forbidden words and deeds, and they would compel prohibitions if they could.
The progressives’ failure to exhibit flexibility, and their insistence on adhering to their lists of the imagined offenses that “trigger” them put me in mind of the 1885 Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, The Mikado. It’s set in the fictional Japanese town of Titipu. KoKo has been condemned to death for flirting. But the locals have found an ingenious way to avoid capital punishment.
Because criminals must be executed in accordance with the order of their crimes, the town appoints KoKo as Lord High Executioner, because, he “cannot cut off another head until he’s cut his own off.” When the Emperor, the Mikado, notices the lack of executions, he orders KoKo to take action. KoKo is prepared though, as he’s been compiling a list of likely victims who, “never would be missed.” KoKo then sings the aria, I’ve Got a Little List.
The lyrics of that song have been updated through the years to reflect the time and place of the operetta’s performance. Since liberals have their lists of things that they object to, I thought it only fitting that, to usher in the new year, I should share my “little list.” Here it is.
As some day it may happen that some justice will be served
I’ve got a little list — I’ve got a little list
Of society offenders on whom vengeance should be served
And who never would be missed — who never would be missed!
There’s the pestilential nuisances who claim to read the news;
All women who just do their hair and buy too many shoes;
All so-called influencers who have never held a job;
And Rosie O’Donnell, that fat disgusting slob;
All self-important actors with large mouths and little minds;
And bubble-headed actresses who wiggle their behinds;
They’d none of ’em be missed — they’d none of ’em be missed!
There’s the social justice singers who just croak out every tune;
And old Kamala Harris who’s still laughing like a loon;
And the people who eat garlic and then puff it in your face;
And the climate change fanatics who just hate the human race;
They never would be missed — they never would be missed!
All idiots who praise with an enthusiastic tone
All centuries but this one, and all countries but their own;
And those who preach for justice, and the rights of victims tout;
Then open up the prisons and let all the criminals out;
But by now I think you have probably have must have got the gist;
I don’t think they’d be missed — I’m sure they’d not be missed!
He’s got them on the list! He’s got them on the list! And they’d none of them be missed, they’d none of them be missed.
Happy New Year from Frank on Friday.
Christmas Time is here, so we’re being treated to the annual loony leftist attempt to take all joy out of the Holiday season. For many years, we were beset by liberal attempts to remove any semblance of religion from December 25th.
Liberals fought to remove mangers, and even Christmas trees, from public property on First Amendment grounds. This was nonsense, of course, as the First Amendment prohibits the government from establishing a State religion, but was never intended to remove all religion from public spaces. They even opposed hybrid holiday displays which featured both a creche and menorahs because they might offend atheists. There’s really no pleasing these pricks.
One of the items on the long list of things liberals told us we weren’t allowed to say was “Merry Christmas.” Too Christian, they said. What if a person so addressed didn’t celebrate Christmas? Such a person might be made to feel uncomfortable. “Oh, the humanity!” Think about it. Regardless of your religion or lack of religion, Christmas is a holiday. Even atheists get the day off. All saying “Merry Christmas” to such people means is, “Enjoy December 25.” What’s offensive about that?
The Left grudgingly permitted us to utter the words, “Happy Holidays” for a while there, but now they’re determined to ensure that even secular holidays aren’t happy. In order to make sure that there’s no “Joy to the World,” the inappropriately named Joy Reid has warned would-be Christmas revelers that “Jingle Bells,” one of our most beloved Christmas songs is – wait for it – racist.
That’s right. Reid has announced that the song was written and performed purely as means to mock black people. Reid’s rant is based on the research of Kyna Hamill, a Boston University professor. Hamill traced the origins of the song to its composition in 1857 by one James Lord Pierpont, who did support the Confederacy in the Civil War. The song, originally entitled “One Horse Open Sleigh” was performed in minstrel shows.
These facts by themselves lend nothing to the Reid claim that Jingle Bells is racist. Minstrel shows surely were racist by today’s standards, but there’s no bright line test which declares any melody used in such a show 168 years ago to be taboo today. The context matters.
In preparation for this piece, I consulted a list of minstrel show song titles. Based on their titles alone, many if not most of them were offensive then, and would be bias crimes now. Yet many of our popular songs were once featured in minstrel shows. “Oh, Susannah” and “Camptown Races” to name two. The theme from the movie The Sting, “The Entertainer,” was a minstrel show tune. It was written by famous Ragtime composer, Scott Joplin, who was black.
If a simple melody can be racist, then the Kentucky Derby must be racist, because when the horses step on the track, the band plays, “My Old Kentucky Home,” a minstrel show song. The point is, it’s not the tune that offends, it’s the context. Professor Hamill long ago weighed in to clarify her research. She noted it was first performed in blackface, but did not identify racist intent in its composition, and did not claim its lyrics carried racial meaning. Hamill told the Boston Herald in 2017, “I never said it was racist now. Nowhere did I say that.” But Joy Reid sure did.
And it’s a good thing Professor Hamill took the racist label off of “Jingle Bells” because lots of performers stood to be embarrassed for recording such an offensive song. Over the years, “Jingle Bells” has been recorded by Andrea Bocelli and Luciano Pavarotti. But they’re not Americans, so I guess they get a pass. It was performed by the Sesame Street Cast. That’s right. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting subjected “The Children” to a potentially racist song.
The song also has been recorded by scores of AOC’s. Not the AOC in the news today, but Artists of Color, including Smokey Robinson, The Miracles, Booker T and the MG’s, Count Basie, the Ray Charles Singers, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Sammy Davis, Jr., Fats Domino, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Al Green, Earl Grant, Lena Horne, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Wynton Marsalis, Johnny Mathis, Lou Rawls, Chubby Checker, and Fats Waller. Good thing they didn’t know they were perpetuating the vile minstrel show legacy.
Although the professor who sparked the controversy cleared up the record in 2017, eight years later, Joy Reid is still grinding her racist ax. I guess since being fired by MSNBC she has little else to do. Although the DEI Woke nonsense has been discredited lately, Old Joy hasn’t gotten the message. In truth, stirring the racial animus pot is all she knows how to do.
A couple of years ago those of her ilk tried to tell us “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was a song celebrating date rape. Today it’s “Jingle Bells.” Any song could be next. It’s a wonder “White Christmas” is still allowed on the air. A white Christmas? “Just like the ones we used to know?” It’s clearly a longing for the days of Jim Crow.
“God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” should be barred on several counts. First of all, it mentions God. We can’t allow that on Christmas. Then, it’s too gender specific. And why only gentlemen? Don’t women get any rest? And there’s no mention of transgender people at all. It has to go.
Then there’s “We Three Kings.” Remember the lyrics? “We three Kings of Orient are?” You can’t say “oriental.” That’s racist. And “we three kings of Asian descent,” is no better. Didn’t we just have all the No Kings protests? It’s got to go.
“Oh Come Oh Ye Faithful?” Certainly not. You can’t ask the faithful to come, and then fail to invite the unfaithful as well. Where’s the equity in that? And the song encourages people to “come to Bethlehem,” which may not be such a great idea nowadays. Bethlehem is a hotbed of political strife in Israel. A tour company says you “should be safe in daylight hours.” So if you’re planning to see the Christmas “star of wonder” after dark, you could have a problem.
As for Joy Reid, what’s to be said? Despite her Harvard education, she’s no more than a cheap provocateur. It’s a shame, because with her platform, she could be trying to better the lives of black Americans by improving education and reducing the violence that takes 10,000 black lives every year. Instead, she’s preoccupied with the America of 1857, the year the Supreme Court denied Dred Scott and all enslaved black people citizenship.
Much of our history isn’t pretty. We should never forget it, but neither should we be prisoners to it. There are plenty of things about our society to be dissatisfied with. A beloved Christmas song isn’t one of them.
As for me, I still “like those J-I-N-G-L-E bells.” Merry Christmas.
The subject of this week’s offering is the emerging story of the at least $1 billion fraud perpetrated by Somali immigrants in Minnesota. The piece concerns Minnesota Congresswoman, and insufferable Squad member, Ilhan Omar. Its title is a reference to the legend of Omar the Tent Maker.
The Omar legend is a story unto itself. It originated with a 1922 silent film sporting that title. The film was a biography of Persian poet and mathematician Omar Kayam. However, the legend that made Omar the Tent Maker a household name was far less literary.
The popular notion of Omar the Tent Maker was that, when Arabs stopped living as nomads and moved into houses, Omar no longer had a market for his tents, so he adapted his products from tents to dresses for big-boned women.
This may have been insulting, but it was damned funny. I know this is true because during my childhood, scarcely a week went by that my father didn’t suggest that some big person got his or her clothing from Omar the Tent Maker. And it wasn’t just him. It must have been a generational reference, because a contemporary of my father, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, actually referred to Omar the Tent Maker in one of his memorable First Amendment opinions. But I digress.
For some reason passing understanding, Minnesota is home to more than 100,000 Somali immigrants to the U.S. The Somalis were admitted to the country by Il Duce Obama. Remember the furor over the 2018 Donald Trump comment about why we let in people from “shithole countries?” He had Haiti in mind, but Somalia is an equally repugnant shithole, from which we shouldn’t have taken immigrants.
The average income in Somalia is less than $2 a day. Somalis are poorly educated, and lack proper sanitation. The one thing they do really well is procreate. More than half the population of Somalia is under age 15. They also lack a functioning government. The government collapsed after a civil war in 1991, to be replaced by local warlords and criminals. This is the cancer that Obama imported into our country.
According to NPR, the large block of Somalis gravitated to Minnesota because Minnesota is known for its “hospitality.” And they have taken full advantage of Minnesota hospitality, as about 75% of them are receiving welfare benefits.
But the Somalis are enterprising people. The current fraud investigation makes that abundantly clear. During the Wuhan pandemic, the U.S. went on a well-meaning, yet ruinous spending spree that increased federal spending by some $2 trillion a year. All manner of new social welfare programs sprung up, and apparently, nobody in the government was looking. Enterprising Minnesota Somalis went to work. Ilhan Omar, in perhaps her only legislative accomplishment, sponsored the bill that funded the fraud, and she appeared in a video promoting this “nonprofit” program.
So far, prosecutors have found that $1 billion was stolen, of which only $50 million has been recovered. The largest scandal is the Feeding Our Future case, where approximately $300 million intended to feed low-income children during the pandemic was siphoned away in what federal prosecutors describe as the largest pandemic-relief fraud scheme charged in U.S. history. Most of the shell companies and meal sites were operated by Somali Minnesotans.
That’s right, not all the fraudsters were Somali. Just 79 of the 87 defendants charged to date. The fraudsters claimed to have served 91 million meals, for which they fraudulently received nearly $250 million in federal funds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota.
Some of the money was distributed to Safari Restaurant to provide meals to schoolchildren. The restaurant’s owner, Salim Ahmed Said, provided no meals, and just pocketed that cash. Ilhan Omar held her 2018 congressional victory party at Safari Restaurant. Just a coincidence, I’m sure. One witness has claimed that Said disclosed a gang affiliation and threatened to kill him if he reported the fraud to authorities.
Instead of feeding children, Said used the funds to buy a $2 million Minneapolis mansion and a $9,000-per-month shopping spree at Nordstrom. Other participants in the scheme spent your money on luxury cars, lavish lifestyles and purchasing property in various places from Minnesota to Kenya. (Kenya borders Somalia. Even the Somalis know better than to return from whence they came).
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is taking heat for failing to stop the fraud, but in fairness, in 2021 the Minnesota Department of Education grew suspicious and tried to stop Feeding Our Future funding. Proving they have assimilated into the U.S., the fraudsters sued, alleging racial discrimination. A judge ordered the state to restart reimbursements, enabling the scheme to escalate.
Another Somali engineered scheme defrauded the Minnesota autism-treatment program of millions of dollars. One scammer, Asha Farhan Hassan, had pocketed about $465,000 from the Feeding Our Future fraud, but that was just pocket change. Hassan billed Medicaid for fake therapy sessions, used untrained staff and paid parents $300 to $1,500 a month to keep their kids in the program. She sent hundreds of thousands of dollars abroad, including to purchase real estate. The autism program’s budget jumped from $3 million in 2018 to nearly $400 million in 2023. Autistic kids got no treatment. The taxpayers got screwed.
The scale of program growth stunned federal officials, who are still uncovering new schemes. The Housing Stabilization Services program was projected to cost $2.6 million annually but paid out more than $100 million last year. Where did all the money go? Well, in addition to spreading the graft around the Minneapolis Somali community, it looks like substantial sums were sent back to Somalia, reportedly diverted to the Somali terrorist organization Al-Shabaab. A House investigation and a Treasury Department probe are underway.
Was Representative Ilhan Omar involved in the frauds. There’s no hard evidence of that yet. But she has proven herself to be a more successful investor that even Nancy Pelosi. When she was first elected to Congress in 2018, she reported a negative net worth, and her 2023 filing showed a net worth of about $65,000. According to a financial disclosure statement filed this May, her net worth, combined with her husband’s assets, spiked to $30 million, a 46,000% increase.
This is circumstantial evidence, to be sure, but as my late father-in-law was fond of saying, “Nobody gets that kind of money quickly by working for it.” For her part, Ilhan Omar denies any involvement. She attributes the fraud to a lack of federal guardrails monitoring the COVID-19 money. On the subject of money being sent overseas to fund terrorism, she said, “There are people who have been prosecuted, and who have been sentenced. If there was a linkage in that the money they have stolen going to terrorism, that is a failure of the FBI and our court system in not figuring that out.”
In other words, you stupid Americans made it easy for us to steal the money, and if you can’t figure out where we stashed it, shame on you. Omar played the race card, painting Minnesota Somalis as the victims of the frauds.
So is Ilhan just an ignorant dupe, or is she Omar the Fraud Maker? Decide for yourself.
FRANK ON FRIDAY – ICE, ICE, Minne
It’s a rare occasion when I base the title of one of my weekly offerings on a rap song. I have long been of the opinion that it’s no coincidence that Rap rhymes with crap. However, since the nation’s most influential DJ, John Donald Trump, has been known to play rap music, I made an exception.
The song in question is Vanilla Ice’s, Ice, Ice baby. Vanilla Ice actually performed at President Trump’s New Year’s Eve party at Mar-A-Lago. The reason why I know this is because I came across a media hit piece that criticized Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem for singing and dancing to the song at the party.
In the aftermath of the ICE shooting in Minnesota, I thought of Ice, Ice Baby because the song is about a shooting.
Gunshots raged out like a bell
I grabbed my 9, all I heard were shells
Falling on the concrete real fast
Jumped in my car, slammed on the gas
Bumper to bumper, the avenue’s packed
I’m trying to get away before the jackers jack
Police on the scene, you know what I mean?
I rest my case. It’s no coincidence that Rap rhymes with crap. In any case, the Minnesota shooting has some parallels with the son’s lyrics, which is not to trivialize the fact that an ICE protestor was killed. The shooting didn’t have to happen, but the fact remains that it did happen because, and only because the woman, 37 year old Renee Nicole Good, deliberately obstructed and provoked the ICE officers who were lawfully on the scene trying to do their jobs.
Unsurprisingly, the lap dog media is trying to paint Ms. Good as an innocent motorist who just happened on the scene, and had no choice but to attempt to drive away. She’s being cast as “the Minnesota mom,” much as Kilmar Abrego was called “a Maryland dad.” Nothing could be further from the truth.
First of all, Good wasn’t from Minnesota, and wasn’t simply a motorist in the wrong place at the wrong time. Depending on what report you want to believe, she either was from Colorado or Missouri. A rabid anti-Trump activist, she and her significant other dutifully left the United States after the 2024 election, and moved to Canada for several months. They came back, and settled in Minneapolis, for the purpose of obstructing ICE operations.
Rather than a simple Minnesota mom, Good was a rabidly anti-Trump radical who had been trained as an “ICE Watch warrior,” and presumably knew what she was doing when she behaved aggressively toward the officers. I stress that this is not a rumor being spread by the Administration, it comes from one of her close friends, a woman named Leesa.
It seems that Good’s decent into anti-ICE mania was cultivated by her contacts within the charter school where she enrolled her 6 year old son. The Southside Family Charter School is connected with “ICE Watch,” a group of local leftist activists devoted to disrupting ICE raids in the area. This group has been known to use their vehicles as weapons against law enforcement.
Good’s friend Leesa said of her, “She was a warrior. She died doing what was right.” Leesa revealed that Good “was trained against these ICE agents — what to do, what not to do, it’s a very thorough training. To listen to commands, to know your rights, to whistle when you see an ICE agent.” Leesa added, “I know she was doing the right thing. I watched the video plenty of times but I also know in my heart the woman she was, she was doing everything right.”
I guess Good’s anti-ICE training wasn’t thorough enough to include a lesson on not trying to run over the ICE officers when they order you to stop. Or maybe she was absent that day, because that’s what happened in this case. Good was described as the leader of the anti-ICE protestors who had been harassing the ICE officers all day long. When one of the ICE vehicles got stuck in the snow, Good used her vehicle to box the officers in.
Video of the incident shows that officers tried to get Good out of her car. “Get out of the car. Get out of the fucking car,” one agent was heard saying in the video as the group approached the vehicle on a snowy road in a suburban neighborhood. The agent then grabbed the car’s door handle, and a bystander is heard yelling “No!” as the driver begins to move the car backward.
Another agent was seen circling the car just as it was moving, eventually standing in front of it just before it lunged forward. He fired at least two shots at the driver as the car came towards him before moving out of the way as it continued moving forward, the footage shows. The car then veered off the side of the road and crashed into another vehicle. The officer who fired the shots reportedly was dragged 50 years by a protestor’s car in Minnesota last June.
There will have to be a complete investigation of this incident, and likely a grand jury hearing. That’s routine procedure. However, the result likely will be a determination that this was a justifiable shooting. I, unfortunately, have some experience with such incidents.
I was a prosecutor for 25 years. On the day my oldest daughter was born in 1988, the State Police were conducting an operation to arrest a man on drug distribution charges. The man used his pickup truck to try to run over two Troopers. One of the Troopers shot and killed the driver. The shooting was found to be justified.
But just as in the shooting in Minnesota, the 1988 shooting didn’t have to happen. In each case, the driver of the vehicle set in motion the deadly result. Police officers do not lightly resort to the use of deadly force. They aren’t villains, they aren’t brutes, they are human beings, and taking a life takes a toll on them.
The Trooper who was forced to shoot the suspect in 1988 suffered an emotional breakdown, and required years of therapy before he could come back on the job. In Minnesota, Ms. Good was a professional agitator who was trying to call attention to herself. She succeeded. Her actions are a symptom of the sickness that affects the Left.
These people truly believe that their anti-Trump, anti-ICE cause permits them to ignore all laws on the books. ICE had and has every right to conduct its operation in Minnesota, or anywhere else in the country. They are in the streets to arrest criminal illegal aliens who are involved in violent crimes. Leftists brand the ICE agents as terrorists.
The law clearly authorizes the use of deadly force when an officer’s life is endangered. Leftists want to ignore that law as well. And for what? To oppose all things Trump, and to give aid and comfort to violent criminals who would just as soon kill one of the mindless protestors as an ICE officer.
The Biden Administration nurtured the notion that laws need not be enforced, when a leftist cause is at stake. Soros financed prosecutors still practice this insanity. The fact is that Ms. Good chose to give her life to protect illegal alien child molesters, who no doubt would victimize her 6 year old son if they got the chance. If she was the saint they are making her out to be, she would be alive today, and her son wouldn’t be an orphan. Here’s some good advice. If you don’t try to run over a law enforcement officer, you won’t get shot.
I’m sorry if that sounds cold, but that’s the way it is. It’s ICE, ICE, Minne (too cold, too cold).
